Arrival and check in (15:00 Hrs.). Short briefing about the expedition and the usage of the 4×4 units, as well as safety regulations etc.

Departure by 4×4 from Lima very early in the morning taking the Panamericana Norte highway to visit the Sacred City of Caral, the oldest city in America. We continued to Caral. Arrival and check into hotel.

Then, on the way to Huaraz, we stopped at the Paramonga Fortress; an archaeological site belonging to the Chimu culture. From the highest part of this fortress, you can see the whole valley. Return to the city of Huaraz. Checking into hotel.

08:00 Departure from the city of Huaraz (3,900 masl) heading north to the city of Carhuaz (2,638 masl). From this place we will take the track that leads to Conchucos and enter the Huascaran National Park. We continue surrounded by the imposing snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Blanca, we ascend in a zigzag until we reach the Punta Olimpica tunnel (4736 masl) with a length of 1384 meters, considered the highest trans-Andean tunnel in the world. We will make a brief stop to take pictures and visit the lagoons of Cancaraca and Yanaraju. We continue to Chacas, where we will visit the main square, the Church of the Virgin of Asuncion and the handicraft workshops of Don Bosco. Finally, we will arrive in the town of Huari.

Departure by 4×4 to visit the Archaeological City of Chavin de Huantar, archaeological site located in the district of Chavin de Huantar, province of Huari, in Ancash, at 3177 meters above sea level. It belongs to the pre-Inca Chavin culture. In the western facade of the temple, built in carved stone, there were the nailed heads, sculptures of monstrous aspect carved in rock that constitute excellent samples of the lithic art of the men of the nation Chavín, that were fixed to the walls by rock spikes. In one of its interior galleries is the famous Lanzon Monolithic, 4.53 meters high.
The archaeological site of Chavin was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. You will also make a brief visit to the Site Museum. Arrival to La Union.

Departure by 4×4 to the city of Huanuco, in route we make a stop at the Monumental Archaeological Zone of Huanuco Pampa, with an area of 796 acres, is one of the few sites of the Inca period that has survived almost intact until modern times.
Almost before arriving to the city, we will pass by the Monumental Archaeological Zone of Kotosh, it is considered one of the oldest temples in Peru and America (dating from 4000 years ago), the best-known enclosure is the temple of the Crossed Hands.

We leave towards the city of Huancayo. En route we pass through the towns of Pillco Marca, Tomayquichua and Ambo. We will make brief stops to observe the landscape and take beautiful pictures. The trip continues towards the city of Cerro de Pasco which is located at 4,380 m.a.s.l. and is considered the “mining capital of Peru”, since in this place there are deposits of silver, copper, zinc and lead. It is in this city where after several days of walking the Austro-German settlers arrived, and because of the intense cold, many of them got sick with “soroche”. Continuing with the trip we pass by Lake Junin, the second largest lake in the country after Lake Titicaca, and hosts among its marshes, cattails and islets thousands of species of waterfowl, frogs, wild guinea pigs, foxes and vizcachas that adapted to the icy climate of the Puna. Arrival to the city of Huancayo.

We leave with our 4×4 vehicles to the city of Ayacucho. The road takes us through large wheat fields reaching the Mantaro River, which already runs towards the jungle. We will arrive in Izcuchaca, a small ancient town, full of history and legends, located about 2,825 meters above sea level. It’s a beautiful colonial bridge, with a single stone arch, and has a three-story square viewpoint.
A point of great interest in the journey through the Huancavelican lands, passing La Mejorada, is the imposing Tablachaca dam on the Mantaro River. Here we will be able to observe how the Mantaro River, in its violent race towards the jungle, forms three curves between summits and abysses, generating the figure so well-known in the Peruvian geography, denominated fluvial peninsula of Tayacaja. From this point the road continues, passing through Huanta, to the city of Ayacucho; we arrive and leave the 4×4 units in our parking lot to walk around the center of Ayacucho. Overnight. (B)

Most of this route will be on dusty roads, where you will be able to observe beautiful landscapes and visit small rural villages. Before leaving the city of Ayacucho you will have an early morning walking tour to visit the main square and some churches.
En route you will visit the typical rural Andean towns of Ocros, Chumbes, Santa Maria de Chicmo and Talavera. Arrival to Andahuaylas. Overnight. (B)

Departure to the city of Abancay. En route we will visit the beautiful lake of Pacucha. Once we pass the lake we ascend to the archaeological site of Sondor (3,500 masl), which belongs to the Chankas culture, before being conquered by the Incas. Continuing the tour, we will pass through the picturesque villages of San Geronimo and Quishara. Arrival to Abancay.

On the route from Abancay to Cusco you visit the famous Saywite carved stone, which is 2.5 meters high. It is distinguished by its carvings of flora and fauna, as well as topographical landscapes of the Inca Empire. We will continue our journey to the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Cusco. Overnight at hotel in the Sacred Valley.

Full day expedition in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, visiting the salt mines of Maras, the agricultural complex of Moray and the fortress of Ollantaytambo. Return to Urubamba.

Early in the morning departure from Ollanta train station to the majestic city of Aguas Calientes, appreciating a diversity of natural landscapes according to the existing altitudinal floors, will arrive at the station of the town of Aguas Calientes, from this station will take the buses to make the ascent to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The visit begins by observing the grandiose landscape that surrounds it.
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours. At the end of the tour, we will descend by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes. Lunch at the passenger’s expense. In the afternoon, transfer to the station to board the train to Ollantaytambo. Transfer to the city of Cusco.
